What to see at Scala Contarini del Bovolo
Scala Contarini del “Bovolo” (Venetian for snail shell) is part of “The Hidden Jewels of Venice” project. This manumental staircase is one of the most unique examples of Venetian architecture of transition, from the traditionally well-rooted venetian gothic to a more renaissance style (about 1499).
Connected to the adjacent palace through three loggias, the 26-meter-high
staircase leads to the main floor of Contarini Palace, where visitors can enjoy tthe exhibition halls. Scala Contarini del Bovolo culminates, after 113 steps, in the Belvedere, from it is possible to admire a beautiful and
remarkable view of all Venice.
