After traveling all over Europe in the 1920s and 1930s and opening her own gallery in London, Peggy returned to New York, where she was born and raised, and also opened a contemporary, innovative and inspiring gallery\/museum there. He decides to return to Europe and exhibit his collection at the Venice Biennale in 1948, where it becomes the most complete and coherent exhibition of modernism ever presented in Italy. At the end of 1949 he buys Palazzo Venier dei Leoni and transfers his extraordinary collection there, which also begins to open to the public.
